Cryptic Tweet indicates Maciocia may be out of the mix in Montreal (Update: yep, he’s out)

Is Danny Maciocia staying at the University of Montreal?

The 49-year-old has been touted as leading candidate for a front office role with Montreal Alouettes – either as general manager or as a president of football operations – but sent out a Tweet late Friday night that could indicate he’s out of the running.

“Carabins Family!” the tweet reads, referencing the University of Montreal nickname, while the hashtags translate to “pride” and “we are Carabins.”

On Friday it was reported that Alouettes are considering a unique football operations structure that would include a football operations president, a general manager and a head coach,  with Jacques Chapedelaine remaining as coach, current special teams coordinator Kavis Reed possibly taking the GM’s role with Maciocia sliding into the top spot. All three roles would be filled by owners Bob and Andrew Wetenhall.

Current Ottawa Redblacks assistant general manager Brock Sunderland has already been told he’s no longer a candidate for the GM job in Montreal and if Maciocia, a former general manager of the Edmonton Eskimos, is indeed out of the mix and current it will be interesting to see if the Wetenhall’s proceed with Reed – who was head coach of the Eskimos for two seasons but has no front office experience – or seek out another candidate.

UPDATE: Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette confirms that Maciocia has spurned the Alouettes.
