Some interesting news out of Montreal where it’s being reported that Brock Sunderland has been told that he won’t be the new general manager of the Alouettes. Currently the assistant general manager of the Ottawa Redblacks, Sunderland was thought by many to be a leading contender for the job.
Can tell you that @REDBLACKS asst GM Brock Sunderland as been told by @MTLAlouettes ownership that he will not be hired as GM.

Just got off the phone with @BrockSundy. Confirmed what I was told last night – he won’t be named the new #Als‘ GM. Story in the works.

That would seem to leave Danny Maciocia, the other name most often mentioned in connection with the post, as the most likely candidate but word is that’s not a done deal, either. It’s possible that Maciocia, who has a cushy gig at the University of Montreal, has either decided he doesn’t want it – he gave a French-language interview over the weekend that talked about the importance of being on the same page throughout the organization – or owners Bob and Andrew Wetenhall have decided to go in a different direction altogether.
One name being tossed around the rumour mill is Hamilton Tiger-Cats general manager Eric Tillman who has connections with the Wetenhall family but several sources have all but debunked that theory, at least for now.
Unless the team has decided to go with long shot internal candidate Joey Abraams – most people think that’s unlikely – it’s entirely possible that the Wetenhall’s have decided to go in an entirely unexpected direction.
Stay tuned.
