If Argos sign Steinauer as HC they will be making a huge mistake. Being a cat fan, I hope they or somebody does sign him. Then we can get a real DC in Hamilton and maybe we can see a defence that can cover or at least tackle receivers. Our defence sucks and for the most part has sucked under Steinauer. Please somebody take this guy off our hands. If he signs somewhere, teams will be well advised to keep his contract to two years. Argos need a proven coach. This guy is not their answer. LaPolice would be much better choice.

Good points about O’Shea and Maas.

In fairness to Barker, Steinauer, Mike O’Shea and Jason Maas all started their coaching careers with the Argos under Barker, so he’s done more than just poach other team’s coaches (something every team in the league does). That said, the failure to sign Trevor Harris and the panicky trade for Drew Willy are reasons enough to let him go.

Have to wonder if the new Ago ownership is willing to swallow the contracts of Milanovich and/or Barker who both have a couple of years remaining.

Despite swearing “up and down” that Adrian McPherson was the Alouettes quarterback of the future, AD generally had 5-10 pass attempts by “junk game” time…once the Alouettes had clinched the East title…every season. THAT was Marc Trestman.

We all remember doofusses like Rod Black….FREQUENTLY wondering aloud why Trestman wouldn’t play his backup quarterbacks, REGARDLESS of the situation on the field. UP by 50, or down a TON, Calvillo played virtually EVERY down for this team until the day he dropped.

The answer to Mr. Black’s question may be a complicated one: rumours of McPherson’s being secretly blacklisted after having been accused in college of betting on several games (never convicted). I’m sure THAT had NOTHING to do with his getting run over by an opposing team’s mascot-golfcart while he was with the NO Saints.

But mysteriously, whenever McPherson had a chance to shine…receivers would start dropping the ball…A LOT. The year before he got picked up by the Bengals Andrew Hawkins dropped 5 passes in McPherson’s “last game of the year showcase”. Hmmm. And after Trestman sat McPherson on the bench for 5 seasons, HE was rewarded with the NFL HC job he so coveted. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Calvillo got his records, Trestman got his NFL job, Hawkins got his shot at the “bigs” and my Alouettes team was left without ANY plans for the post-Calvillo era.

This team MAY have finally landed on it’s feet…by some miracle. Troy Smith, Josh Neiswander, Alex Brink, Tanner Marsh, Jonathon Crompton, Dan LeFevour, Anthony Boone, Taj Boyd and more…had to wash out or be injured before Rakeem Cato got his shot, 2nd game of the 2015 season. It never would have happened…if GM Jim, Popp had his way. Cato was 4-5 on the depth chart at that point.

And while some may have written Cato off, those in the Alouettes “know” feel that the combination of BAD playcalling, TERRIBLE caustic receivers and a tragically inept O-line have skewed ANY evaluation of Cato’s abilities.

Cato and Adams MAY well tear this league apart in the next few seasons. The next iteration of this storied franchise. If they do, it will have been DESPITE the damage Trestman did to the QB succession on this team.

So yeah…the Argos should hire Trestman as soon as possible. 😉

I hope Barker stays in Toronto so there won’t be too much competition for GM jobs. But honestly, since Jones left, Barker hasn’t been able to bring talent in Toronto. He may fire Milanovitch to save his derrière, but it won’t fool people very long about his incompetence. Barker builds his teams through FAs and poaching other teams coaches. When comes the time to spot talent to be groomed, he’s very plain at best. Sticking to Ray and not re-signing Harris was a big mistake, and it will reach him someday. It’ll take more than just hire Steinauer to make the ARgos a winning team.

Trestman as GM in Toronto? No way. Trestman never wanted to be involved in players hiring. He’s an X and O’s guy and has no interest in this part of the job, whether in Toronto or anywhere else. Better take Jim Popp than him.

If Ricky Ray comes to Montreal, because of Maciocia or otherwise, I will no longer be an Alouettes fan.

Suffering what seemed like 20 decades of “zombie offence” under Calvillo was bad enough, but JUST as we are on the cusp of a dynamic offence with two GREAT future quarterbacks in Cato and Adams, with the creative playcalling of Jacques Chapdelaine…we retreat into that “pocket passer” womb of boring nothingness…

The Wetenhall’s surely would NOT be so short sighted. The ONLY reason to sign Ray would be to resuscitate Calvillo’s offensive coordinator career, using yet another “AC clone” in the hopes that something might “click”…even though the results were disastrous this year with Kevin Glenn. Calvillo is NOT a coach….PERIOD.

We just emerged from that nightmare.
If the Wetemhall’s go in that direction I swear, I will become a REDBLACKS fan for the rest of my existence.

Anyone know about the ‘happy pills’ pain killer that Henry took before the game yesterday? Would they be opioids such as Percocet (Oxycodone), Oxycontin, or Tramadol, or codeine based drug? Was wondering what is legal in the CFL when it comes to pain killers. Not trying to get Hank in trouble here, just want to know the rules.

Then too, how much press is hiring Trestman going to get in Toronto? Can it be sustained?

One would think that a game that eliminates or keeps the Argo playoff hopes alive would be get some press. Instead of three newspapers, one had nothing (not even the standings/scheduled games), one had the standings including scheduled games and one had only a two thirds of a page article about how the CFL must have thought a new BMO field plus hosting a GC would sell tickets but with the Argos on the outside looking in, it was a bust.

I am doubting Trestman, even if his hiring was covered would overcome this sort of neglect.
