Argos all-star Shawn Lemon signs contract extension

Argos defensive end Shawn Lemon has signed a contract extension that will keep him in Toronto through the 2018 CFL season, per sources.

Lemon played in 16 games this season with Toronto registering 14 sacks and five forced fumbles, both of which tied him for second in the league.

The 28-year-old was acquired from the Saskatchewan Roughriders on July 2 for offensive lineman Matt Sewell and quarterback Mitchell Gale. The Argos also received a conditional 2018 draft pick.

Lemon signed a two-year deal – $170,000 for the 2016 season – with an $85,000 signing bonus with the Riders in January but the relationship quickly soured.

But the 2014 Grey Cup champion made the most of his opportunity in Toronto earning an East Division all-star nod this season. The six-foot-two, 251-pound pass rusher was reunited with defensive coordinator Rich Stubler in Toronto, under whose scheme Lemon broke out in with 13 sacks and eight forced fumbles in Calgary two years ago.
