Former Redblacks OL Colin Kelly signs with Bears

Offensive lineman Colin Kelly has signed a practice squad deal with the Chicago Bears, per sources.

The 26-year-old started all 18 games for the Redblacks at right tackle in 2015. Ottawa general manager Marcel Desjardins released Kelly so he could sign a free-agent contract with San Francisco in January.

The six-foot-five, 315-pounder made it all the way through training camp on the Left coast, working at left tackle behind five-time Pro Bowler Joe Staley, but he was among the final 49er cuts as the team pared down to its 53-man roster.

Originally Kelly joined the Redblacks before training camp in 2014. He earned a starting job for the final seven games of that rookie season in the CFL.

The Oregon State product inked an undrafted free agent pact with Kansas City in 2013, but he suffered a knee injury that cost him the entire campaign. The Chiefs released him in June of 2014.
