Argos quarterback Ricky Ray done for the season: reports

Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray is done for the season, according to Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette.

Ray was injured in the Labour Day contest against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, when he was sacked three times and took a couple of hard hits from Hamilton defensive end Adrian Tracy.

With Ray out, look for Toronto to go with former Hamilton quarterback Dan LeFevour for Sunday’s rematch against the Ticats. LeFevour, who was signed Aug. 8 after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will get the nod over Logan Kilgore who started three games earlier this season but threw 10 interceptions against two touchdowns.

The Argonauts closed Thursday’s practice to the public and media – CFL rules permit teams to close one practice a week – but head coach Scott Milanovich was asked about Ray in the post practice media session.

“He’s very sore. He was at practice today. I’ll have a better answer tomorrow regarding how he feels and how we”ll go [at quarterback,]” Milanovich said. “He’s going to have to practice tomorrow. He’s got an upper body injury that I’m not going to go into. He still has some soreness today.”

Losing Ray would appear to be a huge blow to the Argos who sit in third place in the East Division with a 4-6 record. But the 36-year-old’s numbers with his current club aren’t spectacular:

Now in his fifth season with Toronto, Ray has dressed for a 58 of a possible 82 games, starting 50 ( in the other eight he was active but on the sidelines.) In his 50 starts, Ray has a record of 24-26 including, 3-4 this season.  In only one season (2013) was Toronto’s record above .500 with Ray as a starter at 6-4. Of course he did lead the Argos to a Grey Cup in 2012.

For his career, Ray has a regular season record of 103-94-1. Kilgore and LeFevour: 2-5.
