CFL fines Riders $15,000 for roster violation

The CFL fined the Saskatchewan Roughriders $15,000 on Wednesday for a roster violation during their July 16 game versus the B.C. Lions.

The league found the Riders didn’t have enough Canadians on the field against the Lions. CFL teams must not only start at least seven Canadians each contest but specify where they play.

The CFL also fined Riders offensive linemen Thaddeus Coleman and Josiah St. John as well as Edmonton defensive lineman Jabari Hunt for their actions during games last week.

Hunt was fined for delivering a low hit on Winnipeg quarterback Matt Nichols.

As per league policy, the amount of the players fines weren’t disclosed.
