It would appear that Matt Bucknor has had a change of heart.
After initially agreeing to join the Ticats’ practice roster – but not signing a contract – the Canadian defensive back has decided to join the Calgary Stampeders instead. The 30-year-old also had interest from the Montreal Alouettes.
The 30-year-old Bucknor, who can play both field corner and safety, was released by Winnipeg earlier this week after staring every game over the last two seasons with the Bombers.
A player deciding to go elsewhere after agreeing to terms with a CFL club is not unprecedented, though it is rare. Money, coaching relationships and potential playing time can all be a factor.
