Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Ticats sign quarterback Zach Collaros to a contract extension

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed quarterback Zach Collaros to a contract extension through the 2018 season.

The 27-year-old Collaros enjoyed his best CFL season in 2015, setting career highs in passing yards (3,376) yards and touchdowns (25) while completing over 70 per cent of his passes in 12 starts. But he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee on Sept. 19 against Edmonton and missed the remainder of the season.

Collaros was entering his option year and would have been a free agent after the 2016 season. By signing him now, the Ticats lock up one of the league’s best young quarterbacks while at the same time providing Collaros with some security while he rehabs from his injury.

The Tiger-Cats originally signed Collaros as a free agent on in January, 2014, after he spent two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts. In his first season in Hamilton, Collaros led the Tiger-Cats to an Eastern Division title and a Grey Cup appearance.
