The TFC fans who object to the Argos at BMO Field should grow up. The stadium gets maximum revenue from its owners with multiple tenants, and BMO will be perfect for the Argos. They have a real chance of growing their brand and trying to restore some of their past glory. CFL history, tradition, ratings, and popularity far greater than MLS but that’s a moot point. Both, I hope, succeed and both can co-exist in the same stadium without harming the other. This is happening all over North America — nothing to be upset about. YOu can’t have a soccer only stadium all to yourself — makes no sense.

Inebriatti……this says it all. These are not Soccer or sports fans…they are folks who want to drink hard,in public and act like idiots. I’m all for a couple drinks but to create a fan club with this type of name just points to the fact they just want to party hard. The feam or venue is really not important to these guys.

I understand the concerns about field conditions — we’ll have to see if they are borne out over the course of the season.

But some of the others? The hyperbole is thick. Leaving that aside, I really don’t understand some of the points in the final paragraph. “This is your home, but you’re hemmed in a little bit more” — how so? The fans are not sharing the stadium at the same times, and the locker room space that the Argos are using is new isn’t it? (so it’s not taking away from FC’s space?). The Argos also have their own practice facility elsewhere. “You’re accountable to more people” — maybe there are more ‘management’ types now, but doesn’t the buck still stop with MLSE as it did before? “You have more guidelines you have to follow” — what guidelines? Taking care of the field and facilities should be the same no matter who is playing. Or is this about guidelines for fans? (though I don’t see how that should be any different either; common courtesy, good behaviour, and sportsmanship are the ideals for every sport) “It takes away part of the celebratory atmosphere.” — again, how so? Seems to me it does so only if one lets it.

There will always be extreme opinions on either side of an issue, but I think as the season goes on everything will work out to the satisfaction of most. Most.

Ottawa has the Redblacks and Fury ( soccer ) both calling TD Place home. Not only is it a happy mix but players from both sports are generally out there together building a rapport with their respective fan bases. TFC fans should try to emulate that. Why be adversarial ?

It was NEVER intended to be YOUR “home” or “space”.

Fact is, this stadium was paid for with TAXPAYER dollars. Fact is, this facility was built under the condition that BOTH football and soccer coexist there.

Soccer fans in Toronto are SELFISH and wrong to think that BMO is ONLY for them.

I fear that for a segment of TFC supporters the conflict is ideological. Canadian football is seen as a sport for peasants, the “hicks from the sticks” not to be recognized by the self-appointed urban elite.
TFC supporters did have two legitimate concerns -the quality of the turf and the intimacy of the stadium at each goal -but those have been addressed as best they can.
As a lifelong Cat fan, I have never liked the Arrrgooos either, but we need them.
