Bombers release Cotton & Peach

Just one day after parting ways with veteran nose tackle Zach Anderson, the Bombers have continued to clear cap space, releasing veterans Paris Cotton and Greg Peach.

Cotton, 26, took over as Winnipeg’s starting running back midway through the 2014 regular season following the release of Nic Grigsby. Cotton went on to record 609 yards on 111 carries in eleven starts before breaking his arm in August of 2015. Cotton’s release comes as no surprise after the Bombers added nationals Andrew Harris and Pascal Lochard in free agency. With the club set to start a Canadian at running back for the first time in eighteen seasons, Cotton, an American, immediately became expendable.

Peach, 29, joined the Bombers in 2013 after stints in Edmonton and Hamilton. Recording an impressive ten sacks in his first twenty starts with the club, Peach’s production slowed greatly in 2015, recording just 22 tackles and one sack in eleven games. The Bombers will look to a plethora of young Americans to replace Peach at defensive end, including returnees Justin Cole, Derrell Johnson, late-2015 addition Chase Vaughn, and the recently-signed Shayon Green.
