League reaches deal with officials

The CFL has reached a four-year agreement with the Canadian Professional Football Officials Association, the league announced Thursday.

The CFL kicks off its 2015 schedule Thursday night with the Ottawa Redblacks visiting the Montreal Alouettes.

“I’d like to thank and congratulate our league officials for the tremendous work they do on and off the field,” commissioner Jeffrey Orridge said in a statement. “Their contributions and involvement with the CFL make our game better.

“Reaching an agreement of this magnitude brings four more years of stability to our league. This is great news for our players, our teams and our fans across Canada.”

Association president Brian Chrupalo echoed Orridge’s sentiments.

“The League listened to our members’ needs throughout the process and responded accordingly,” he said. “We are proud to work in this league and are happy to know the league values our contributions.”
